The region of Siegen-Wittgenstein

Nature and the city: the best out of both

Vast green forests, crisscrossed by hiking and cycling trails on one side. On the other, the buzzing university town Siegen with lots of shops and a broad range of cultural experiences. The Siegen-Wittgenstein region is an area of contrasts: forests cover 65 % of it, making it Germany’s most densely wooded region – yet at the same time, it is one of the most successful engineering areas in the country. It is home to a large number of World and European market leaders. On top of that, the multi-faceted highland area offers a variety of outdoor activities, from hiking and cycling to climbing and golf.

The university town Siegen is the cultural heart of the district. Opportunities for shopping and entertainment are abundant in the freshly redesigned town center around the Sieg riverbank and in the historical upper town. Those interested in culture will find all they could wish for: the Apollo theatre regularly hosts well-known artists and ensembles and presents award-winning in-house productions. The museum of contemporary art in Siegen is counted among the best in Germany and has been awarded “museum of the year” by the International Association of Art Critics in 2011.

Thanks to great transport links, those who would rather spend their weekend in a major city can get to Frankfurt, Cologne or Dortmund in no time. Besides exciting career opportunities at WaldrichSiegen, Siegen and Siegen-Wittgenstein also offer an attractive environment with a great quality of life.
