As early as 1987 WaldrichSiegen delivered six roll grinders to Baosteel for the hot rolling mill No 1 in China. Since spare parts for electronical components were increasingly difficult to obtain, the Chinese steel manufacturer opted for the modernization of the two universal grinders after a successful run of 25 years in the roll shop. The extensive WaldrichSiegen know-how in the field of modernization convinced Baosteel. Thus, they commissioned WaldrichSiegen with the overhaul of these machines.
In 2002 and 2003, Baosteel awarded the machine tool manufacturer in Burbach the contract to overhaul four of the work roll grinders in the roll shop. The project was realized very successfully. The machining facilities in China as well as the organization of spare parts and services by the WaldrichSiegen subsidiaries GMT German Machine Tool International Trading and GMT German Machine Tool Manufacturing in Jiaxing were further important reasons for choosing WaldrichSiegen instead of a competitor. This customer proximity allows WaldrichSiegen to guarantee short processing times and fast responses to spare part inquiries.
During the upcoming modernization of the two universal grinders of the type WS III C 50x600 the mechanical components will be completely overhauled. The exchange of the CNC control and cabinet are also parts of the order. Additionally, a new CP gauge arm will be installed for measuring the different rolls fully automatically. After these measures the machine tools, used for machining work and back-up rolls, will correspond to the current technological developments and meet the latest requirements on precision, quality and efficiency.
